Great decision making skills - a natural or a learnt ability?
Each of us uses our decision making skills on an on-going basis from one
moment to the next, often without consciously realising what we are actually
doing.
Think about it this way - the life you have is the result of a long series of choices.
On a daily basis, from the moment you wake up to when you fall asleep at the end of the day you follow a path with a choice - and consequence - at every turn.
How come some people seem naturally good at making choices?
Leaders and those successful in business generally have good decision making skills.
Think about people you know - maybe some of them seem to have an effortless, natural ability to take choices. It appears effortless because they are so confident that they're taking the right choice.
Some have learnt various abilities either through formal training or by experience. These people tend to be self-confident in what they are doing and often content with the outcomes their choices produce.

Why do others struggle?
Sadly there are many people who have very poor decision making skills. I'm not talking here about people who make an error of judgement - they at least have taken a choice. They simply haven't weighed up the consequences. No, I'm talking about people who are often lacking in self confidence and struggle any time they have even a simple choice to make. "What shall I have for breakfast?"
I've known many people just avoid the choice altogether and never consider an alternative - they carry on doing the same things 'because it's easier'. But that often leads to discontentment and even resentment. The good news is that with self confidence you can readily learn how to deal with choices.
What type of person wants to improve their decision making skills?
Anyone who wants to can improve their abilities - if they genuinely want to. It isn't just those people who recognise that they have large or important choices to take, or that they need to know how to choose. It is also those who struggle with the small and seemingly inconsequential choices like, "Shall I have porridge, toast or bacon and eggs?".
How can I develop my skills?
